Singapore - It is undeniable that the motorcyclist was one of the most vulnerable individuals in the street. Therefore, motorists must understand and be aware of it.
And to reduce injuries and deaths are quite high when the motorcyclist crashed, then the British government set up a campaign to reduce the number of motorists killed by road accidents. The campaign is called THINK!
Road Safety Minister Mike Penning said that while motorists in the UK population is only by 1 percent of the number of road users, but deaths from accidents that occur on the motorcyclist death rate accounted for 20 percent of total road casualties in Britain with many of these collisions occur at intersections and involve other vehicles.
Therefore, the campaign THINK! This will focus on efforts to encourage car drivers to look left-right and check
is there a bike around them.
"The UK has some of the roads the safest in the world but about nine bikers still die on the streets every week in 2009," said Penning as reported newspress, Saturday (18/06/2011).
"As a biker, I know how much fun riding a motorcycle and practical, but it is unacceptable that so many motorcyclists die on our roads and I want to overcome this," he added.
In the UK the car drivers often are not careful at intersections. They often do not see motorcyclists and this is the main factor that caused many victims of motorcycle riders there.
Well, the focus of this campaign that will encourage motorists to pay more attention to motorists. Because in England there are 472 motorcyclists were killed and 5350 seriously injured in road accidents in 2009.
"In 2009, 78 percent of motorcyclists killed and seriously injured in collisions involving other vehicles and 67 percent of these collisions occur at intersections, other motorists often fail to see motorcycles," said Penning.
For this campaign, a fund of 1.2 million pounds were prepared in order to give directions to the car users through advertisements on the radio. In addition, the riders will be trained and given the importance of wearing suluhan appropriate safety gear when riding a motorcycle.
